Word Counter
Count words in your text with accurate results using intelligent word boundary detection.
The Word Counter shows you instantly how many words, characters, sentences and lines your text contains. It also estimates reading time. All values update live with every keystroke.
How it works
- Paste your text or type it into the input field.
- Read the results in the six tiles: words, characters with spaces, characters without spaces, sentences, lines and reading time.
- Values change immediately when you edit the text.
When a word counter helps
The word counter is useful for texts with length requirements: meta descriptions (around 25 words), LinkedIn posts (up to 3,000 characters), blog articles with an SEO target length or assignments with a word limit. The reading time is based on 225 words per minute and gives you a quick sense of how long the text feels.
For texts where you need the exact character limit of a platform, the character counter is the better choice.
FAQ
How is reading time calculated?
The tool divides the word count by 225 (average reading speed) and rounds up. For 450 words that gives you 2 minutes.
How does the tool count sentences?
It splits the text at periods, exclamation marks and question marks. Abbreviations like "e.g." can slightly affect the count.
Is my data stored?
No. The counting runs locally in your browser.
