What happens in the retainer

Strategy calls and roadmap. We meet every two weeks. Each call has an agenda with open action items, results since the last session and new priorities. The roadmap is updated after every call and grows with your project.

Monitoring. We track indexing, rankings, Core Web Vitals and crawl errors. If Google drops a page from the index or a core update shifts your visibility, you get an assessment before you have to ask.

Reporting. You receive a monthly report with the metrics that matter to your business: clicks on revenue-relevant pages, leads, visibility on your most important topics.

AI visibility. We measure whether and how ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews mention you and your competitors, and derive action items from the results. Details on our GEO consulting page.

GEO consulting

The retainer is our core format because SEO needs ongoing attention. Project work (audit, strategy, workshop) is a good entry point, and many clients move into a retainer afterward. The roadmap from the initial project carries over.

How a consulting year unfolds

Timeline of twelve months of SEO consulting in four phases: kick-off (month 1), first roadmap and quick wins (months 2 to 3), high-impact initiatives (months 4 to 6) and expansion with new topics (months 7 to 12), repeating as a cycle. Strategy calls run every two weeks throughout the year, with a quarterly review and roadmap update at the end of each quarter.

Phase

Timeline

What happens

Kick-off

Month 1

Set up access (Search Console, Analytics, CMS), align on goals and responsibilities, baseline review of technical setup, content and rankings

First roadmap and quick wins

Months 2 to 3

Roadmap ready, first high-impact/low-effort actions implemented (title tags, indexing fixes, internal links)

High-impact initiatives

Months 4 to 6

Site structure, content build-out and technical improvements, first measurable results from quick wins

Expansion and new topics

Months 7 to 12

Open new topic areas, start GEO monitoring, ongoing optimization and response to Google updates

Throughout the year: a strategy call every two weeks, a quarterly review with roadmap update every three months.

The pace depends on your team's capacity. Some clients implement all quick wins in the first three months, others spread them over six months. We prioritize together on the call.

Every action item has a data-backed rationale, an estimated effort and an owner. You decide what gets implemented when.

Six signs of good SEO consulting

  1. You have a dedicated advisor who has done SEO hands-on and knows your project over months.
  2. Every recommendation sits in a roadmap, ranked by expected impact and effort.
  3. Your consultant understands ads, social and CRM and plans SEO alongside your other channels. If SEO is not the biggest lever right now, they tell you.
  4. Reporting covers metrics that matter to your business: clicks on revenue-relevant pages, leads, visibility on your most important topics.
  5. When something goes wrong (ranking drop, migration, core update, cross-team alignment), you get context and a plan for what comes next.
  6. The approach works at scale: thousands of pages, multiple markets or large product catalogs, because processes and automation are built in from the start.

How we bill

The ongoing retainer is billed monthly. Audits and strategy projects have a fixed project price.

We discuss pricing in the first conversation because it depends on scope: How many pages does your site have? How many markets? How much does your team implement on its own?

Frequently asked questions about SEO consulting

Your consultant analyzes your website, builds and maintains a roadmap, guides implementation, monitors rankings and indexing, and reports to you monthly. Whether the topic is site structure, Core Web Vitals or AI visibility: you have one dedicated point of contact.

Pricing depends on scope: site size, number of markets, how much your team implements on its own. Retainers are billed monthly, audits and strategy projects have a fixed price. We clarify the framework in a first conversation.

In the retainer we talk every two weeks on a call. In between, we are reachable through whatever channel works for your team. We adjust cadence and scope to your needs.

An audit or strategy project gives you a roadmap you can execute yourself or with other partners. In the retainer we guide execution, measure results and adjust course. Many clients start with an audit and move into a retainer afterward. The table above shows which format fits which situation.

Yes. In the retainer we monitor whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews mention you, and derive actions from the results. If you want to focus on AI visibility, there is a dedicated GEO consulting service, available as a combined retainer with SEO.

That depends on your setup. Some teams handle everything in-house, others ask us to implement. At the kick-off we clarify who takes which tasks and track it in the roadmap.
