  1. Crawling: Automated bots (crawlers) follow links and discover new or updated URLs. This can be steered via the robots.txt and XML sitemaps.
  2. Rendering and indexing: Google processes the code, executes JavaScript if needed, and stores the page in the index – the library the search results come from. Only indexed pages can rank.
  3. Ranking: For a search query, the algorithm sorts the matching pages by relevance and quality.
